Synopsis
Dwell: landscape in the figure is a response to the urgent issue of habitat loss. The rich biodiversity of three endangered ecological communities in South Australia is evocatively conveyed through haunting visual and sonic footage, and by three dancers who embody the ‘landscape in the figure’. Movement, sound and image become increasingly stressed and degraded as the space available to them diminishes, reflecting the precariousness of these unique habitats. Dwell invites contemplative viewing and deep listening. It cultivates a sense of embodied presence in, and as, nature.

Shooting locations Tolderol Game Reserve Wetlands (Thultharrung), Goolwa Beach, and Morialta Conservation Park, South Australia.

Bio
Dr. Sue Hawksley is an independent dance artist and artistic director of articulate animal, a platform for creative and critical inquiry into embodiment, movement and environment. Projects have been presented internationally. She has performed with major companies including Rambert, Philippe Genty, and Scottish Ballet. She holds a Ph.D. in Dance from the University of Edinburgh (Edinburgh College of Art) and has extensive experience as a dance educator. Sue is based in Adelaide and also works in environmental conservation & habitat restoration.

A Dra. Sue Hawksley é uma artista de dança independente e diretora artística da Articulate Animal, uma plataforma para investigação criativa e crítica sobre incorporação, movimento e ambiente. Projetos têm sido apresentados internacionalmente. Ela já se apresentou com grandes companhias, incluindo Rambert, Philippe Genty e Scottish Ballet. Ela é PhD em Dança pela Universidade de Edimburgo (Edinburgh College of Art) e tem uma vasta experiência como educadora de dança. Sue mora em Adelaide e também trabalha com conservação ambiental e restauração de habitats.
