Synopsis
The Blue Wave Women is a project commissioned by the 3rd Jeju Biennale. It is a video work based on the artist’s research on the Samseonghyeol Shrine and Gimnyeongsagul Cave tales which he aimed to collect samples of multiple traditional folk songs on Jeju Island using locally sourced materials to produce unique musical instruments. By combining the Korean dace and modern dance moves, Chang utilized physical movement to explore the multilayered meaning of “holes” as human origin, birth, and death of a human being through shamanic tales.
Bio
Ting Tong Chang (b.1982, Taipei) lives and works in Taipei, Taiwan, and Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Working across the distinct practices of immersive installation, video and theatre, his transgressive practice co-opts science, technology and history to dissect the world around him. After receiving his MFA at Goldsmiths, University of London in 2011, Chang has exhibited internationally (Museum of NTUE, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Jeju Biennial, Anyang Public Art Project, Guangzhou Triennial, Taipei Biennial, Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media, Compton Verney Art Gallery, and Wellcome Trust).

Sinopse
The Blue Wave Women é um projeto encomendado pela 3ª Bienal de Jeju. É um trabalho de vídeo baseado na pesquisa do artista sobre os contos do Santuário Samseonghyeol e da Caverna Gimnyeongsagul, com o objetivo de coletar amostras de várias canções folclóricas tradicionais na Ilha de Jeju, usando materiais de origem local para produzir instrumentos musicais exclusivos. Ao combinar a dança coreana e os movimentos da dança moderna, Chang utilizou o movimento físico para explorar o significado multifacetado de “buracos” como origem humana, nascimento e morte de um ser humano por meio de contos xamânicos.
Bio
Ting Tong Chang (1982, Taipei) vive e trabalha em Taipei, Taiwan, e Santiago de Compostela, Espanha. Trabalhando em práticas distintas de instalação imersiva, vídeo e teatro, sua prática transgressiva coopta ciência, tecnologia e história para dissecar o mundo ao seu redor. Depois de receber seu MFA na Goldsmiths, University of London em 2011, Chang expôs internacionalmente (Museum of NTUE, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Jeju Biennial, Anyang Public Art Project, Guangzhou Triennial, Taipei Biennial, Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media, Compton Verney Art Gallery e Wellcome Trust).
