BUTOH-OHNO Workshop in Tivoli, NY | OCT 27, 2012

Maura Baiocchi & Wolfgang Pannek, co-directors of Taanteatro will be honoring Kazuo Ohno, the founder of Butoh, on his 105th birthday anniversary with a full day, hands-on workshop. Experience what a class with Mr. Ohno at his Yokohama Studiowould have been like.In the late 80′s Maura Baiocchi was personally invited to be a part of Kazuo Ohno’s legendary dance studio after he experienced one of her performances in Brasilia, Brazil. She moved to his beach house in Kamakura, with other Ohno students, and attended daily classes at his studio. This experience led Maura to develop her own dance/theater approach which she went on to call taanteatro – theater of tensions.

This will be an unforgettable experience for any dancer or performer interested, attracted or curious about Kazuo Ohno and Butohand a great opportunity to meet Taanteatro’s directors who plan an immersive workshop in Tivoli for 2013.

BY CAR

Go over the George Washington Bridge, immediately turn right off the Bridge onto The Palisades Parkway going North. Take the NYS Thruway, North to Albany exit, (exit number 9W, not to be confused with Rt. 9W). Stay on the Thruway for appox 1 hour. Take the Kingston/Rhinecliff Bridge exit, (17 miles past the New Paltz exit). Go thru the toll and come immediately to a traffic circle, stay to your right, going through a traffic light onto RT.28, (Ford Dealership on your right). Take your immediate first exit, Rt. 209, Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge. Rt. 209 takes you over the bridge. Go thru one light. At second light, turn left, North, onto Rt. 9G. Pass Bard College on your left. Approx 2 miles after Bard, see sign for Tivoli on right. Turn left onto Broadway leading into the Village of Tivoli. The Barn is #33 Broadway (see number on fencepost), last house on right at the bottom of the hill before you cross the stone bridge. If you go into the Village, you’ve gone too far. Welcome…
