TAANTEATRO RESIDENCE WORSHOP 2012 | Registrations Open

STAGE PRESENCE

February 4-19, 2012
São Lourenço da Serra – São Paulo – Brazil
with
Maura Baiocchi and Wolfgang Pannek
Directors of Taanteatro
*Limited Space Available*
On occasion of its 20th anniversary, Taanteatro opens the company’s mountain workspace in Brazil to offer a program of performance immersion and intensity. Beyond getting introduced to the taanteatro approach, the new edition of the Taanteatro Residence Workshop (since 2001) extends the limits of stage presence by developing actions that overcome the social standards and artistic codes of the body.
The Residence Workshop is directed towards dancers, actors and performers. Each participant will develop a solo performance with advisory from Maura Baiocchi and Wolfgang Pannek.

Taanteatro investigates stage communication as a dynamic and energetic process based on the principle ‘tension’. Interdisciplinary, pluri-medial and transcultural it is situated within the field of post-dramatic theater where the intensive reality of the body is central. The taanteatro approach is based on the assumption that the quality and efficiency of the performer’s communication relies on his/hers capability to establish and operate the complexity of tensions that define the performatic event (e.g.: intra-tensions = the inner landscape of the body, inter-tensions = between any kind of bodies and objects and infra-tensions = the field of social and cultural codes, values and beliefs).
Founded in 1991 in São Paulo, Brazil Taanteatro Company collaborates with the evolution of contemporary performing arts through the development of creative, reflective and didactic processes. The singularity of Taanteatro’s stage works based on artists, poets and philosophers such as Artaud,  Lautréamont, Nietzsche, Pessoa, Kahlo, Carrol, Beckett e Shakespeare has been repeatedly raved by the press due to its “irreverence and innovation”, “striking visual beauty”, “great performers’ work” and its “gestural refinement”.

I came back home full of the will to dance. I practiced the Mandala of Body Energy, danced in the wind, on the earth, in the trees and, on the top of all this, rain and lightning. I wept and laughed…such joy!!
